Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights are now 15-11-4 on the year after beating the New Jersey Devils at Prudential Center.
  • Also, the Golden Knights are 2-0-0 on this road trip and they have won four games in a row for the first time this season, while they are now 8-6-1 on the road.
  • The Golden Knights have one game left on this road trip, which is against the New York Islanders on Thursday.
  • Malcolm Subban won his fourth straight in goal after stopping 32 of 35 shots, and he’s now 4-4-2 this season with a 2.86 Goals Against Average and a .909 Save Percentage.
  • Also, Subban is now 3-1 in his career against older brother P.K. Subban following the win over the Devils.
  • It is expected that Marc-Andre Fleury will join up with the team this week and should get the start against the New York Islanders on Thursday.
  • Ahead of Fleury’s return, Garret Sparks was reassigned to the AHL with the Chicago Wolves in the wake of the game.
  • The Golden Knights faced Nikita Gusev for the first time since trading him to the Devils during the off-season, and the Russian was a -1 in 14:54 minutes of ice time on Tuesday.
  • Ryan Reaves took a shot to the ribs and left the game but, thankfully, returned later and finished with 7:41 minutes of ice time.
  • The third line of William CarrierCody GlassAlex Tuch continues to impress and the trio certainly add a different dimension.
  • Speaking of which, Tuch contributed three points (three assists) and the forward now has six points (three goals, three assists) in his last three games. The Golden Knights have lacked secondary scoring all year but that could be coming to an end now thanks to Tuch.
  • Chandler Stephenson was acquired by the Vegas Golden Knights as part of a trade on Monday, and he made an instant impression by scoring on his debut for the franchise.
  • Stephenson was a +1 in 11:43 minutes of ice time, and the center brought plenty of speed and hustle to that bottom line.
  • With William Carrier on the third line, Stephenson brings some much-needed speed to the fourth line and, although a small sample size, I really like the balance of this lineup right now.
  • Jonathan Marchessault, who had not scored a goal since Nov. 16, recorded a natural hat trick including two deflections and it was a hell of a period from the forward, who now has 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) on the year.
  • The top six forward unit for the Knights is delivering and we’ll be doing a story on that this week.
  • William Karlsson picked up his 17th assist on Marchessault’s first goal, and Reilly Smith recorded his 9th helper and that line has been really good this season. Smith finished with two assists.
  • Deryk Engelland got his 3rd assist of the year after seeing his shot deflected by Jonathan Marchessault past Mackenzie Blackwood.
  • Vegas got off to a really sloppy start in this game and they were certainly playing with tired legs after beating the New York Rangers the night before.
  • They were outshot by a bad Devils team 17-7 in the first and 11-10 in the second, although the Knights did have the advantage on the shot board in the third period (13-7).
  • The Devils, to their credit, responded in the first period with Interim Head Coach Alain Nasreddine behind the bench, just hours after John Hynes was fired.
  • However, they eventually ran out of steam and there looks to be a long road ahead for this team.
  • Vegas was outshot 35-30 by the Devils in the end, although they won out in the faceoff circle 54%-46%.
  • The Golden Knights went 1/3 for on the power play, which is now ranked 7th in the National Hockey League, converting at a 23.2 click.
  • Their penalty kill, on the other hand, continues to get the job done and it went a perfect 2-for-2 against the Devils. Vegas’ PK is ranked 4th in the NHL (85.9).
  • Vegas did a good job of staying out of the box and good discipline is a key ingredient for any successful team.
  • The Golden Knights were outhit 23-19 but they did block more shots with 16 to the Devils’ 13, they also had less Giveaways (6-10).
  • Nate Schmidt led all Vegas Golden Knights skaters in total ice time with 24:02 minutes, including 1:47 minutes on the penalty kill.
