Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights are now 10-9-3 on the year after shutting out the Calgary Flames 6-0, who have now gone 130:03 without a goal.
  • The Knights snapped a five-game losing streak and avoided setting a new franchise record for most consecutive losses.
  • After putting in a much improved effort against the LA Kings on Saturday, the Golden Knights finally put it all together and played a full 60-minute game against the Flames.
  • They were particularly impressive in the third period where they scored four goals, including three in the span of just a few minutes.
  • It was just what the doctor ordered for the Golden Knights who were sinking fast, but they now have a chance to get back on track during this four game homestand.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury made his 16th start of the year and he was elite again, stopping all 34 saves flung at him for his second shutout of the year.
  • In the process, Fleury earned his 58th career shutout to move into a tie with John Ross Roach for 19th all-time in NHL history.
  • Fleury now has a record of 10-5-1 with a 2.52 Goals Against Average and a .920 Save Percentage this year.
  • William Karlsson is on an absolute tear right now. The forward has now recorded a multi-point game for the third straight contest with two goals and an assist against the Calgary Flames.
  • Also, Karlsson now has six goals and seven assists in his last 11 games, including three goals and three assists in his last three games. Karlsson leads Vegas in points with 23 (eight goals, 15 assists).
  • Nate Schmidt also had himself a night after recording four assists, setting a new career-high for points in a single game.
  • And, I love this stat by the way, Schmidt had one assist going into the game meaning that he recorded more assists in a single game than he had in his nine previous games combined.
  • Max Pacioretty also had a two-point night with a goal and an assist, and the forward now has eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points on the year.
  • Paul Stastny snapped an eight-game streak without recording a single point by potting a goal in the second period, and it was an absolute beauty too.
  • Mark Stone also broke a six-game scoring slump by converting on the power play, and the elite two-way forward now has 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) through 22 games.
  • Shea Theodore picked up his eighth assist of the year and Brayden McNabb also tallied a helper, meaning that the Knights blueline contributed six points on Sunday night, they had 25 points from their defensemen in their previous 21 games. Incredible stat.
  • Cody Eakin has been struggling for much of the year but, credit where credit is due, the forward had arguably one of his better games of the season against the Flames, potting his first goal of the year and finishing the night with a plus/minus rating of +1, while recording five shots on goal, two hits and one takeaway.
  • Reilly Smith and Jonathan Marchessault also recorded a helper each, and it was a hell of an offensive night from the Knights.
  • The Golden Knights are now 2-0-0 against Calgary this year, outscoring the Flames 12-2 which is incredible against a team that won both the Pacific Division and the Western Conference last year.
  • Calgary went 0-for-2 on the power play, generating no shots, and the Golden Knights’ penalty kill is currently ranked fourth in the NHL (87.2).
  • Vegas went 1/3 on the power play and their man advantage is now ranked 10th in the National Hockey League (21.6).
  • The Knights were dominant again in the Faceoff circle with a winning percentage of 59%, although they were outhit 45-38.
  • Vegas did, however, block more shots (20) than Calgary (13), while they had just one Giveaway compared to the Flames’ seven.
  • Shea Theodore led all Vegas Golden Knights skaters in total ice time with 22:20, finishing the night with a plus/minus rating of +2.
