The Vegas Golden Knights hit the road for the first time in 2019-20 tonight when they take on the San Jose Sharks in the second installment of their double-header.

After beating the Sharks 4-1 in a thriller of a home opener on Wednesday night, the Vegas Golden Knights will head to the SAP Center tonight looking to improve to 2-0-0 in 2019-20 and gain some momentum in the Pacific Division with another divisional win.

The Knights got a complete effort up and down their lineup on opening night and the highlight was rookie phenom Cody Glass registering his first-ever goal in the NHL on his NHL debut.

Reilly Smith recorded two goals, Mark Stone and William Karlsson both had two-point nights, Max Pacioretty translated his fine form in the preseason to the regular season with an assist and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21 of 22 shots.

It was the perfect way to get the new year underway and raise the curtain on the Golden Knights’ third year as an NHL franchise.

However, attention will now turn to the second part of the double-header tonight at the SAP Center, and the Golden Knights should expect a strong backlash from the Sharks who will be going all out for revenge while looking to win their home opener.

More from Vegas Hockey Knight

San Jose should have stud defenseman Erik Karlsson back in the lineup after he missed opening night following the birth of his child – congratulations to all by the way – although Evander Kane will serve the second game of his three-game suspension.

Vegas will in all likelihood stick with the same lineup for tonight’s game, although they will have to make do without defenseman Nate Schmidt who is week-to-week with a lower body injury sustained on Wednesday night.

That could mean an NHL debut for rookie blueliner Nic Hague, who impressed throughout the preseason and he brings offensive upside and a unique, long reach to the table for the Golden Knights.

Alex Tuch and Cody Eakin are both on the IR with upper body injuries and they won’t be available tonight, although Vegas proved on opening night that they have more than enough depth to get by.

Cody Glass excelled as the pivot on the second line between Max Pacioretty and Mark Stone, recording his first goal in the NHL and winning over 50 percent of his faceoffs.

Valentin Zykov and Brandon Pirri also impressed against the Sharks on Wednesday, and they seemed to excel having a high-end center in Paul Stastny alongside them.

Vegas also did a good job of shutting down the Sharks’ plethora of big hitters on Wednesday, including the likes of Brent Burns, Logan Couture and Timo Meier, and they will have to do the same tonight if they want to go 2-0-0 to start the year.
