If the Vegas Golden Knights' offense were a landscape, it would be a desert. Dry, arid, and no chance of hitting a spot of water. That has been the case in the past week, where the team only mustered one goal.
One goal! Like, is this it for you guys?! Have you just given up?
The dry spell has fans pointing plenty of fingers. Maybe it's Bruce Cassidy's fault that the team isn't playing well. My goodness, the head coach better get through the players before the guys give up on him. Some are even bringing up the Bruins days, where the downfall happened in Beantown.
It could also be Kelly McCrimmon's fault. Look what happens when you trade away your back-end guys and you can't get goals afterwards. Some have even wanted Jonathan Marchessault back in the mix. He hates it in Nashville, after all.
But let's look at who Vegas has now. Three guys come to mind with the offense being completely lackluster. If these guys don't step up, it's game over for the Golden Knights. Here are three players that better start burying some pucks in the net.
1.) Tomas Hertl
Fun fact: Tomas Hertl hasn't registered a point since March 6, when he got an assist against the Minnesota Wild. It's been a long time since the Turtle got a single point for the Golden Knights.
That's not even mentioning how the center had no points after Game 5 of last season's first round matchup against the Wild. If that stretch festers into the postseason, Vegas will be swept for the first time in franchise history.
2.) Mark Stone
The return from the Olympic break has been one of misfortune for the Captain. Stone only has two assists to his name, adding an upper-body injury to the pile. To say that he's dealt with a series of black cats and broken mirrors is an understatement.
Stone is snake-bitten right now and it's showing on the ice. That will bode poorly for a Golden Knights team heading down the stretch, especially if they're getting nothing from their top guys. Speaking of top guys...
3.) Jack Eichel
The funny thing about Eichel is that he had a reasonable stretch after the Olympic break regarding scoring. Up to March 12, he had three goals and three assists after the Olympic break concluded, meaning that he was doing well in spite of some hiccups.
But since that game, he doesn't have a single point. Normally, Eichel's one to bounce from such stretches with a venegance. However, the prolonged dry spell doesn't bode well for a Golden Knights team trying to salvage a playoff spot.
