Wednesday's "Golden Knights" wisdom about... painful change

It's tougher than it looks. But sometimes, we must accept it.

Look, I know that change isn't easy. It doesn't matter if it's firing a Stanley Cup-winning head coach in Bruce Cassidy or holding off on eating cheeseburgers. The thought of trying something different can be scary for many people.

I mean, think about it for a second. You're so used to the simple comfort and pleasures of your routine that you're afraid of what happens if you leave it. What if that diet doesn't work? What if I get laughed out of the building for asking my love interest out? All these things can make you grow gray hairs on your head or worse: make it fall out.

Imagine that making life 10 times worse. Now, you have no head of hair!

But that goes back to a broader point. Sometimes, change is necessary, whether we want to admit it or not. Yes, many of us (myself included) were skeptical of John Tortorella's impact on the Vegas Golden Knights. However, winning four straight games since he arrived on the scene is enough to convince even the most prickly skeptics.

Yeah, the competition hasn't been the most spectacular. You're looking at Vancouver (twice), Calgary, and a banged-up Edmonton Oilers team. But imagine if the Golden Knights lost any of those games sans Edmonton. It would've revolved around how the team was broken and not even Tortorella could save this group.

Instead, the opposite is happening and the results are impressive. Therefore, there's only one lesson to take from this news bit: grow in life and never stop. If you stop learning and growing as a human being, you'll remain stuck in neutral forever. That's something that the Golden Knights don't want to do, especially if the team didn't respond to Cassidy.
