I know that the Vegas Golden Knights have a promotional deal with McDonald's where you get free fries if Vegas scores a goal in the first period. Yes, I know Vegas didn't score in Tuesday's 2-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. But what's one Chicken McNugget meal and fries day going to do to someone? That's why I went to get some lunch there today.
Unfortunately, that led to waiting... And waiting... And waiting while watching others after me get their meals before me.
Like, seriously? I got work to get to and no time to waste. Those fries are getting cold, you know.
But that's the thing. The fries have gotten cold for the Golden Knights in the first period this season. In fact, they've been outscored in the first period in their last seven games, 5-1. You can probably guess the record during this stretch: 1-6-0.
Only two points! That's as bad as McDonald's customer service, where they're apathetic towards the 20-piece order with fries. What are we even doing here? More importantly, why is it that the Golden Knights are getting off to a slow start constantly?
One might point the finger at Bruce Cassidy for failing to motivate the team. But there isn't an available coach out there that can replace him. Plus, the players given to him aren't the best fit for his system, specifically when your defensive objective is to take away space. If you're not making the goaltender comfortable, you're not doing your job.
The moral of the story? Never get your French fries cold. Also, be sure to ask for your sauce if the workers forget it. That's essential to the fry-eating experience. Maybe the Golden Knights can get more goals in the first period because the fries are getting cold.
