Wednesday "Knight" wisdom about... Journeys

Trevor Connelly was acquired by the Penticton before joining the Vegas Golden Knights. What does that teach us about journeys?

As I was playing Super Mario Kart for the SNES, I stumbled upon a bit of surprising news. No, it wasn't Jack Eichel requesting his trade out of Las Vegas. That would've resulted in a thrown controller.

However, it involved Trevor Connelly being acquired by the Penticton Vees. The Vegas Golden Knights prospect was acquired from the Spokane Chiefs in this year's WHL Expansion Draft.

Overall, it's been one heck of a journey for Connelly. From being involved in a scandalous news story involving anti-Semitic behavior to being selected in the first round of the NHL Draft, the ride's been fun. Now? He might take a detour in British Columbia to check out the mountains and Apex Mountain Resort.

But Connelly joining a new amateur team isn't the only takeaway. It also highlights a journey that everyone has been on to their current positions. That ranges from rough beginnings to the relaxing present.

What takeaways will you find from your journey? What lessons did you learn? Here's a brief look at a personal journey of getting to write about the Golden Knights.

A brief (sort of) journey to writing about the Vegas Golden Knights

Before joining FanSided, I was subjected to countless odd jobs. That included working at Von's and getting screamed at by a bald Buttinski (let's call him Gary since he's shorter than the Commissioner) of a manager and working at a spay & neuter clinic (which I loved). These jobs have shaped me to my current position, where I'm working from home. No more old guys telling me about overrated AC/DC songs!

But one particular gig that stood out was with Back Sports Page. It was my first foray into professional writing and also got me to my first press conference. Yes, it might've been TNA Wrestling. However, that doesn't diminish the opportunity.

Before all that, I covered the Golden Knights during the Stanley Cup-winning year. I remember picking them to lose to the Oilers (ironic how that happened two years later), only for them to shatter expectations. Who would've thought that Jonathan Marchessault, Jack Eichel, and Mark Stone would have the postseason performances of their lives?

But most of all, I learned a lot about the business from my boss (let's call him Randy). I consider him a father figure since he gave me a chance to show Golden Knights fans my craft. Not only that, but I was allowed to be myself while writing. For that, I'm forever grateful.

That's the same thing that Trevor Connelly will experience in his hockey journey. He found a solid mentor in Cantor Olivia Brodsky and Rabbi Josh Stanton to guide him and give him wisdom. Now he can flourish with the Penticton Vees before joining the Golden Knights. Who knows? He might look back on his journey with fondness and affection.
