If you thought that Kelly McCrimmon was done after trading Pavel Dorofeyev to the New York Rangers on Friday, well, I've got some bad news for you.

The Vegas Golden Knights traded Akira Schmid to the Florida Panthers for a 2028 third-round pick. This marks another trade in recent days, specifically in the restricted free agent department. Schmid was arbitration-eligible heading into the offseason.

Schmid was actually serviceable for the Golden Knights in 2025-26 as a netminder. He notched a GAA of 2.59 and a save percentage of .893, making him arguably the team's best regular season goaltender. Add two shutouts to the mix and it's clear that he was statistically No. 1.

Alas, it wasn't meant to be for the Swiss Olympian as the goaltending room got crowded. Vegas had Carter Hart, along with Adin Hill (who has a better chance of actually sticking around) and the newly extended Carl Lindbom. Now, the Golden Knights don't have to pay too much for Schmid and get a third-round pick in the process. How sweet is that?

Fans are expecting one or two splashier moves in the next few days from the Golden Knights. Of course, these don't have to be a surprise (i.e., Rasmus Andersson being extended or Hill being traded). However, the Golden Knights are continuing an ambitious roster overhaul that should save them salary cap space for the long run.
