The Vegas Golden Knights desperately needed a breakout game to curb. That meant having a complete team effort from guys like Tomas Hertl and Mitch Marner. Otherwise, fans would've panicked like it was the end of the world.
What better team to do that than against the San Jose Sharks? After all, the Golden Knights have an all-time record of 28-2-5 against the Sharks entering Saturday. It became the proverbial win for the Golden Knights as they snapped a four-game losing streak.
Say it with me, class. You know the quote from Benjamin Franklin.
"Death, taxes, and the Golden Knights defeating the San Jose Sharks."Benjamin Franklin (probably)
Despite the best efforts from a Fresh Prince from the Bay scoring two goals, the Golden Knights defeated the Sharks, 4-3. He was part of a late-game surge from the Sharks, who put in their best efforts to turn the tide. Alas, it wasn't enough as the Golden Knights got two crucial points.
On top of that, Carl Lindbom got his first career win! He stopped 18 of 21 shots and clamped down when the pressure got tight. But he wasn't the only star who shone bright for the Golden Knights on Saturday.
Tomas Hertl gets revenge on his old club with a massive game for the Vegas Golden Knights
Part of the problem with the Golden Knights lately has been that key players haven't scored. Mitch Marner (more on that later) hasn't done much to take the initiative and players like Tomas Hertl have been absent. However, the latter took control of Saturday's game with two goals, including his patented deflection on a power play.

Part of the attack needed to start with Hertl, who didn't have a point in his last three games entering Saturday. However, an impactful game changed the entire narrative for the Prague native, who got some much-needed revenge against his former club.
In turn, it electrified a Golden Knights club starving for any form of offense. But everyone's favorite turtle wasn't the only player who got in on the action. In fact, another starved player got some much-needed points for the Golden Knights.
Mitch Marner breaks the ice for the Golden Knights in a major way
Not having a goal in your last 11 games can turn a man insane. It'll leave you feeling like you're stuck inside padded walls with no friends to talk to. That was essentially Mitch Marner, who felt like he was surrounded by millions of Toronto microphones with a straitjacket on.
But a wrap-around goal and an assist will boost a player's morale. Suddenly, the whispers surrounding his demise were greatly exaggerated. Now, he's flying in like Superman and frying Ontario reporters with his heat vision.
It's been mentioned a couple of times here, but it bears repeating. When you take the initiative on the play, great things happen. That's what Marner needed to do and he got on that. Lo and behold, it got Vegas much-needed points.
Maybe this is a sign that Marner's ready for his breakout. Perhaps it's one wrap-around goal that makes the difference for the winger. But one thing's certain: this Marner guy is going nowhere.
