Entering Wednesday's game against the Vancouver Canucks, the Vegas Golden Knights were caught in a bit of a downward spiral. They had lost seven of their last eight games, leaving fans to wonder if the team had truly regressed. I mean, with all the injuries and underperforming players, it's easy to see why.
But that didn't matter on Wednesday as Vegas blew out Vancouver, 5-2. It was a strong game from key players, including Jack Eichel and Ivan Barbashev. Combine that with an Edmonton Oilers loss and Las Vegas can breathe a little easier.
I mean, you can say that this is the Vancouver Canucks. After all, they've fallen off a cliff ever since they came within a game of going to the Western Conference Final. However, Vegas's struggles were also at the forefront. Plus, they needed some momentum with the looming Olympic break to build some confidence.
Three names come to mind with Vegas's blowout win over the Canucks. Who were the biggest stars in Wednesday's decisive victory over a divisional foe? What made them special in the victory?
1.) Jack Eichel
Jack Eichel needed something to get off his snide. He was looking for a goal, an assist, anything that would help boost his morale and confidence heading into the Olympic break. Lo and behold, he got that in the form of a goal and an assist.

What's more is that this was the Golden Knights scoring the first goal. Vegas has had issues getting off to quick starts in the past few weeks. What better way to do that than to rely on your top center to get the job done?
2.) Akira Schmid
This season has been a catastrophe for Vegas Golden Knights goaltending. Fans have seen their netminders get out of position or let in soft goals, putting Vegas in a tough position. Akira Schmid decided to provide fans with a breath of fresh air on Wednesday.
That consisted of making 21 saves and posting a save percentage of .913. That included this incredible beauty that kept the Canucks from inching closer to the Golden Knights.

Just when you think that the Canucks have him beat on the weak side, he acts like Superman and saves the day. The only difference is that he doesn't have a cape and he's from Switzerland instead of Kansas.
3.) Mark Stone
Another player who needed to add to his scoring after a strong January was Mark Stone. The Captain assisted on two goals against Vancouver, including Eichel's aforementioned party-starter.
He also got Ivan Barbashev another goal, leaving him with goals in four straight games. If the top unit gets going for the Golden Knights, that's great news for them as the season chugs along. Of course, that starts with the Canadian Olympian, who is setting himself up for a dominant season.
