Normally, I try to position myself as a positive being with the Vegas Golden Knights. That means singing the praises of Mark Stone, who's played like the best Golden Knights star this season. That also meant pumping up Jack Eichel when he was putting up Hart Memorial Trophy numbers early.
However, this season has devolved into something that has crossed the point of no return. After getting blown out by the Nashville Predators 4-1, the Golden Knights have waved the white flag.
Yeah, I know it's hard to admit. But there's no hope for the 2025-26 Golden Knights. I dread to see what this team will do with the Dallas Stars looming on Sunday. It's going to be a bloodbath where the Golden Knights will be slaughtered and shut out, 7-0.
Book it.
But that isn't the only problem. This team is playing uninspired hockey that is leading nowhere. The offensive front doesn't score goals. The Golden Knights don't have anybody who can stop a beach ball. The team takes untimely penalty after untimely penalty. It's becoming a routine that has infuriated fans this season, leaving them with minimal words.
That's why there's no hope for the Golden Knights for the rest of the season. Sure, there might be the April month that comes and a brief stretch that lifts the team higher. But Vegas had every chance to bolster its chances for another Stanley Cup, only to squander each and every opportunity.
What makes this a hopeless cause for the Vegas Golden Knights in 2025-26
Why now? What is making me say this now, of all times? Well, look at the main Olympians that returned from the break. We're talking about Jack Eichel and Mark Stone carrying the offense to new heights while Adin Hill plays decent for a stretch... at least, that's how it was supposed to go. Let's look at how these players have done in the last five games, shall we?
Player | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|
Jack Eichel | 1 | 1 |
Mark Stone | 0 | 2 |
Normally, these superstars turn it up after a brief slump. However, something isn't right here. Could it be that they're fed up with Bruce Cassidy, as people are speculating? Who knows. But it still falls on the best players to perform, right?
Speaking of which, you don't allow goals on the first three shots you face. Of course, I'm looking at Adin Hill, who suddenly soured after receiving some praise for a good five-game stretch. But it isn't him who has been bad.
It's also been Carter Hart. It's even been Akira Schmid, who's been the team's best goaltender this season. Overall, the group has been underwhelming and there's no end in sight.
But the worst part is that the team has no heart. They try things like firing 40 shots against the Predators, only for that to fail. They try to keep the neutral zone as their territory, only for them to let the flood gates open. It's become long in the tooth and the team doesn't seem to care.
You may not like it. You might turn to a devastating vice to tune out the mediocre play once and for all. But the end times are here, even if they get to the postseason.
