The Vegas Golden Knights have been on an absolute heater since they joined the NHL. They've made the Stanley Cup playoffs every year except for one, making the Stanley Cup Final twice, and even winning it all in 2023. Add five division titles and five semifinal appearances and that's a recipe for success.
Well, it seems that success breeds contempt in certain areas. That might consist of salary cap circumvention accusations or signing controversial players. A new study reveals that the Golden Knights are the NHL's most hated team, with 22% of fans hating them.
11 states hated the Golden Knights the most, with almost every team being in the western part of the United States. Those teams consisted of the following:
- Alaska
- California
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Kansas
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Oregon
- Utah
- Washington
- Wyoming
The good news? It wasn't a unanimous choice, with numerous states either hating the Colorado Avalanche, the Pittsburgh Penguins, or the Montreal Canadiens. Heck, some teams even loathed the Detroit Red Wings or the Dallas Stars.
People want to make all the silly accusations that they want about the Vegas Golden Knights. After all, the Kansas City Chiefs know a thing or two about this, considering they've won a litany of Super Bowls in recent years. But it's different for the Golden Knights.
You see, they only have one Stanley Cup during their franchise history. Sure, they win a lot. But the hatred seems a little premature, if you ask me. Like, let the team breathe before you start accusing them of being cheaters.
It goes a long way in ensuring that there's no hatred in the world. That's especially true in Las Vegas, where that thing doesn't exist. Okay, it does if you're an Edmonton Oilers fan. But that's warranted, don't you think?
