There are some teams that the Vegas Golden Knights have struggled with during their short—yet sweet—franchise history. For example, did you know that the Golden Knights have an all-time record of 6-6-4 against the New York Islanders?
I know! The Islanders, known for fraudulent investors and giving unproven goaltenders long contracts. The Golden Knights dominate nearly everyone, yet they end up like this when they play New York.
I guess you can't win them all. Such is the way of life.
Anyways, the Golden Knights have had some history with the Washington Capitals. They're playing the Capitals in the Nation's Capital on Friday, where they might even strike up some chatter with old pal, Logan Thompson.
Certainly, you'd think that the Golden Knights would struggle against this team for a couple of reasons. One, Alex Ovechkin. Two, there was that forgetful 2018 Stanley Cup Final that we don't talk about. However, the regular season has been a completely different beast for Vegas.
The Vegas Golden Knights are 9-5-0 all-time against the Washington Capitals
Aside from losing the 2018 Stanley Cup Final in five games to the Washington Capitals, the Golden Knights have fared extremely well against the Capitals. That included a five-game winning streak that stretched nearly four years, ranging from the 2020-21 season (February 17, 2020) to the 2023-24 season (November 14, 2023).
Recent history has favored the Capitals more, however. Washington is 3-1-0 against Vegas in that span, outscoring the Golden Knights, 13-8. In fact, there hasn't been a single one-goal game in that span. Talk about your lopsided victories, eh?
As for playing in Washington, D.C.? Well, that's a whole 'nother story. Vegas is 3-4-0 all-time in the Nation's Capital, having lost its last two games at Capital One Arena. Could we see three straight once Friday's all said and done? Or will the Golden Knights tap into their dominant history against Washington? Stay tuned.
But one thing's certain. Vegas can kickstart another memorable March run. This team has players returning to the mix, whether it's Brandon Saad, Colton Sissons, or Brayden McNabb. Perhaps tapping into a history lesson will be big here.
