As I sit outside in the cold Michigan weather, I've seen something that I haven't seen in years: snow. This might be a foreign concept for Vegas Golden Knights fans who've never lived outside of Nevada. But from a personal perspective, the snow is different.
Growing up, I used to love the white stuff. It was fun watching school close so I could stay home and play video games for the day. Sometimes, I'd go outside and play in the snow, building igloos and... playing golf?
But now? I despise it. I know, that sounds like the most Vegas take ever. However, it's rough driving in the white stuff where you'll wipe out every 20 minutes. That's partially why I moved out to Las Vegas. I couldn't fathom living in a cold-weather state for the rest of my life.
Yet, Golden Knights fans have heard the same dialogue from Northern hockey fans before. The fans have said that "HoCkEy DoEsN't BeLoNg In ThE dEsErt." But what about the Golden Knights having the league's best attendance capacity? Do you think that people will continue their banter about hockey not belonging in the desert? When you have a winning product, that doesn't matter too much, does it?
Still, Golden Knights fans have risen to the occasion, attending games at T-Mobile Arena and sticking around since Day "F*****g One." It's a testament to everything Bill Foley has stood for, doing whatever it took to win right out of the gate.
With that, I'm glad that I live in Las Vegas. I'm glad to be apart of a terrific community that has embraced everyone with open arms. As long as you're not overly crazy or not propping up your team as a "machine" without a Stanley Cup in the millenium, you're good to go. Also, I'll take not living in the snow over the snow every day.
