This wasn't the last time Gallant did this

Gerard Gallant was hired by the New York Rangers on June 16, 2021. The Rangers had an exciting lineup with superstars such as Chris Kreider, Artemi Panarin, and Adam Fox. He was supposed to be the guy that took them to the next level. And he did! Gallant led New York to back-to-back 100-point seasons, making them one of the tougher teams in the NHL. Still, that classic style got in the way.

Thus, the Rangers and Gallant agreed to part ways in May 2023. Despite being a successful coach on the ice, he couldn't connect with his players. That coincided with his stubborn nature, where he didn't make necessary lineup changes. That's how he became a coach that was good enough to get you to the playoffs, but not win the title.

When Stanley Cups are the standard in Las Vegas, making coaches like Gallant out of sorts. Granted, the same thing happened to DeBoer after Vegas missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history. However, Gallant's tenure will be marked as one where everything started falling apart with no way to save it.
