Who has the best single-season shooting percentage in Vegas Golden Knights history?
Finding a good shooter is a rare feat in the NHL. However, the Vegas Golden Knights have plenty. Who did the best in a single season?
It's safe to say the Vegas Golden Knights have been blessed with one of the best-run teams in the NHL. They have the best shooters in the league, including William Karlsson, Mark Stone, and Jack Eichel. Even with some names like Chandler Stephenson leaving, the Golden Knights have fostered a reputation as a perennial contender. Las Vegas is fortunate to have such a great hockey team in town.
But it's more than just building a stable team. It's also keeping the right pieces around and making tough decisions. Watching Jonathan Marchessault go was brutal for hardcore fans who have been around since the "Misfit" days. However, it was necessary in that the contract was too long. Imagine paying a player who's deteriorating defensively for five years... until he was 39.
Still, there was a great player who shot well for the Golden Knights. In fact, he's the single-season leader in shooting percentage, dominating the leaderboard. He had one adversary who came close to his mark. However, this "Original Misfit" stood tall and had a grip on the statistics. Who is this mysterious man who dominated a season shooting-wise? Here's a hint: It's not Chandler Stephenson, although his balance has him atop the all-time list.
William Karlsson had the best single-season shooting percentage in Vegas Golden Knights history in 2017-18
William Karlsson is a man of many talents. He's terrific on the power play, a breakaway candidate when his team's short-handed, and is a terrific center. Nobody can do all these things while acting as a healthy two-way player. However, he holds the single-season record for the best shooting percentage in Vegas Golden Knights history.
He had a shooting percentage of 23.4 in 2017-18, capping an excellent offensive season for the Swedish forward. He also had the single-season record for most goals (43) and points (78) that season, establishing himself in the Golden Knights record books. Mark Stone was close with a percentage of 21.4 in 2020-21. That season, he scored 21 goals and 40 assists, leading the Golden Knights offense to the semifinal round. Coming in third was Cody Eakin with a percentage of 18.3 in 2018-19, while Karlsson came in fourth at 17.1 in 2023-24.
The Golden Knights build their offense around being balanced, doing whatever it takes to win as a team. Karlsson exemplifies this by making his teammates better. It's part of what makes him one of the most beloved figures in Vegas hockey history. The "Misfits" will be remembered for coming out of nowhere to become prominent, with Karlsson leading the charge.
