The Professional Women's Hockey League announced on Monday that all six franchises had new nicknames and logos. Franchises in Ottawa, Minnesota, and Toronto were no longer anonymous, for they had some life breathing into their teams. It consists of the following concepts for next season:

  • Boston Fleet
  • Minnesota Frost
  • Montreal Victoire
  • New York Sirens
  • Ottawa Charge
  • Toronto Spectres

The names are a concerted effort to give the league life, growing the sport amongst women. After being founded in 2023, the PWHL suddenly grew in popularity and gained a following among passionate hockey fans. The new nicknames will add a fun element, giving fans a reason to love the league more.

But what if Las Vegas had a women's team? What if they shared the home with the Vegas Golden Knights, playing at T-Mobile Arena during the winter months? What would the team's nickname be? That's a good question, dear reader. It's an entertaining thought to have, especially with the NHL team's recent successes.

Having a women's team in Las Vegas would capitalize on the sport's growth in Nevada. Given the state just added an ECHL team with the Tahoe Knight Monsters, it would catapult fan interest and make Nevada a primary hockey state in the western United States. Here are some possibilities for a hypothetical team in Las Vegas.

What would a Las Vegas team in the PWHL be called?

One nickname that instantly comes to mind is the Las Vegas Vivas. It fits the city perfectly and would bring more pizzazz to T-Mobile Arena. However, there's one minor problem. That's the name of the cheerleading squad for the Vegas Golden Knights. Therefore, that would be an instant "no" unless there were some minor changes.

What about the Las Vegas Glamour? It would honor the various spectacles and shows in the city, with entertainers such as Barry Manilow and Usher coming to mind. The "Entertainment Capital of the World" is known for giving tourists a show and this would be no different. Honoring the city's entertainment history would be a nice throwback for lifelong residents and new citizens alike.

There's also the Las Vegas Royals, a play on the kingdom theme involving the Golden Knights. Having a counteract in the PWHL to their male counterparts is a nice play on words. But the best one should be the Las Vegas Valkyries, female figures who guide lost souls to God Odin's halls of Valhalla. They have a warrior-like feel to the nickname, which would define the franchise perfectly.

There are plenty of options regarding the nickname for a potential women's team in Las Vegas. One can go the route of medieval times and choose a royal name. Think of the Golden Knights fighting for their queen as an example. They could also choose a great nickname in the Valkyries, where they play off Norse mythology. Whatever the case, Las Vegas hockey fans will have plenty of fun if a new hockey franchise arrives.
