Here's a crazy proposal: Akira Schmid in net
Let's say either Samsonov or Hill completely falls off a cliff performance-wise or gets hurt. Cassidy's had enough with one of the two netminders and is seeking a solution. Who could he turn to in this instance? Who could save the day from the minor leagues?
That could be Akira Schmid, who's currently in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights. The Swiss goaltender has a GAA of 3.56 and a save percentage of .889 in 19 games. However, that comes with playing for one of the worst AHL teams this season. Therefore, it might not tell the entire story behind the 24-year-old's performance in the minor leagues.
Realistically, don't expect Schmid to get the call-up unless it's to step in for an injured netminder. The Vegas Golden Knights are in a funk, which includes the defense. They say nothing stays the same in life, especially losing funks. Eventually, the team will cut back on allowing high-danger chances and get back to blocking shots (86 in the last six games). Therefore, there's no need for the Swiss goaltender to come up unless it's for extreme circumstances.
