The Vegas Golden Knights had a roller coaster ride of a game against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. We're talking about having a late lead, only for Artturi Lehkonen to take a deuce on any hopes of getting two points for Vegas. Oh well, I guess the one point will do, right?

But the game was such a wild ride that it had social media ablaze. No, I'm not talking about Snoop Dogg lighting one during his own college bowl, either. I'm talking about fans reacting to a game that had so many ups and downs that you thought you were heading through the Mojave Desert.

With Colorado winning in the shootout, 6-5, the Golden Knights get an additional point to move into sole possession of first place in the Pacific Division. Still, there are many layers to this shootout loss.

For one, you keep layering the points on. Eventually, the Golden Knights should take that extra step and go on a long run... right? This team usually turns it up in March and April, leaving their opponents in the dust.

But there were a couple of topics that caught the fans' eye on Saturday. These topics had Golden Knights fans curious since they weren't the usual suspects. Jack Eichel? Nope, he's on the shelf. Pavel Dorofeyev? He wasn't shining bright like these two underdogs.

Golden Knights fans have taken a liking to Ben Hutton

Fresh off Hutton's one-timer goal in the second period, Golden Knights fans have fallen in love with the defenseman. He already has five goals and five assists this season, making him one of the most surprising contributors to the offensive structure. Fans have started noticing his contributions, too.

Like, how can you not like a gritty underdog who's fun in the eyes of the people? It makes hockey much more fun when you can root for someone who has no chance of competing most rosters.

Watch for Hutton as he goes through the 2025-26 season. He's playing at a higher level and is giving the Golden Knights some incredible offense when the team is trying to recover from injuries. That could play a huge role down the role, especially once the team gets healthy again.

Alexander Holtz shocks Golden Knights social media with a big game

Another big name that stood tall for the Golden Knights on Saturday was Alexander Holtz. I know, that Alexander Holtz. Like, how in the world does someone score a goal and an assist against the NHL's best team?

That's right. Sometimes, it takes an unexpected source to push you closer to the Stanley Cup. For the Golden Knights, they could rely on Holtz for a Saturday night matinee against the Avalanche. Color all of Las Vegas shocked.

Whatever keeps the machine running, I guess?
