On Monday, the Vegas Golden Knights got bigger—literally—by adding a 6'6" defenseman. His name's Jaycob Megna and he's a big boy (in case you didn't know already).
Defenseman Jaycob Megna has been called up from the AHL.

The roster now sits at 23 with Hill, Karlsson, and Lauzon each on IR.
Despite being called up, the Florida native wasn't in Tuesday's line rushes ahead of the Golden Knights' matchup against the Chicago Blackhawks. He'll act as a depth piece for a Golden Knights team that's still missing Jeremy Lauzon.
The 32-year-old has had a relatively quiet hockey career offensively. He's scored four goals and 23 assists during his seven seasons, playing for the Anaheim Ducks, the San Jose Sharks, and the Seattle Kraken. He's also spent time with the Chicago Blackhawks and, most recently, the Florida Panthers. Here, he won the Stanley Cup with the team while playing eight games.
However, his calling card isn't his offense: it's his literal size. He's used that to block shots and administer hits to the tune of 313 blocked shots and 258 hits in his career. That checks out to an 82-game average of 133 blocked shots and 110 hits, making him a great stay-at-home defenseman.
That's what the addition means for the Golden Knights. While it's a stopgap with injured players like Lauzon and William Karlsson, he can serve as a big (literally) addition for Vegas, should they lose another defenseman. He would be a diet version of Nicolas Hague and add back-end stability, making the Golden Knights a tougher out.
Regardless, everyone loves things being bigger, especially in America. It doesn't matter if it's a juicy burger or a state-of-the-art stadium. If it's big and has awe-inspiring features, people will jump all over it. That's what Golden Knights fans are getting with Megna, even if it's short-lived.
