Remember when Jonathan Quick was acquired for the Vegas Golden Knights' Stanley Cup run in 2023? The legendary Los Angeles Kings netminder came over from Columbus to patch up a patchwork goaltender situation during that season. The Golden Knights were losing guys like Logan Thompson and Adin Hill, leaving the team thin at the position.
Well, that man retired on Monday, leaving behind an incredible career. Quick has three Stanley Cups to his name (two with Los Angeles and one with Vegas), along with a Conn Smythe trophy in 2012. Add a William Jennings trophy (2014 and 2018) and three All-Star Game appearances and this man became a legend.
But that's not all he's done during his illustrious career. The goaltender also has the most wins by any American-born netminder (410) during his 19-year career, making him the best goalie on American soil. He also has 65 shutouts as a netminder, adding more oomph to his credibility.
Perhaps his most noteworthy run came not with the Golden Knights, but with the 2011-12 Los Angeles Kings. The legendary goaltender posted 10 shutouts during that season to go with a GAA of 1.95 and a save percentage of .929. It's a shame he didn't win a Vezina Trophy that season (that would be Henrik Lundqvist). But he still got the Conn Smythe trophy for leading the Kings to their first Stanley Cup (GAA of 1.41 and a save percentage of .946).
As for his Vegas residency? Well, it was relatively quiet. He posted a GAA of 3.13, a save percentage of .901, and a shutout. Still, he helped the Golden Knights win their first Stanley Cup, achieving Bill Foley's promise of a Stanley Cup in six seasons.
With that, here's a salute to one of the best (and honestly, most underrated) netminders to ever do it. Enjoy your retirement and thank you for your contributions to the 2023 Stanley Cup champions, Jonathan Quick! Be sure to vacation everywhere and take plenty of pictures!
