Elliotte Friedman silences the loudest critics about the Bruce Cassidy situation

Can we please put this to rest?

Numerous hockey fans were outraged by how the Vegas Golden Knights are handling the Bruce Cassidy situation. That's especially true with teams like the Los Angeles Kings and the Edmonton Oilers, where they're calling for Kelly McCrimmon's head on a silver platter (not in Toronto, though). A certain head coaching organization didn't like it and added more fuel to the fire.

Unfortunately for the fans in Edmonton and Los Angeles, Elliotte Friedman poured cold water on the outcries and the fire while he spoke on Oilers Now. The NHL stated that there wasn't much that they could do (or want to do) about the situation.

"As it stands right now, Vegas has the right to [deny teams permission to speak]; it doesn't look like the NHL sees that there's much they can or want to do about the situation."

As long as Cassidy's getting a payday, there's nothing that the NHL can do. Therefore, this should be a done deal and fans should stop worrying about what will happen afterwards.

Case closed. Wrap it up.

At this point, this speculation has gotten ridiculous. The Golden Knights got a bigger punishment for not speaking to the media than they did for how they're handling Bruce Cassidy. After all, the head coach was relieved of his duties and not fired.

Why the Bruce Cassidy fiasco is strongly overblown and why hockey fans should listen to Elliotte Friedman

Hockey fans love to overplay things, especially if it's related to the Vegas Golden Knights. They'll come out with accusations of salary cap circumvention via Mark Stone or calling them immoral for signing certain players. This appears to be no different, as fans have the ol' torches and pitchfork out yet again.

However, there's nothing that the league will do about the situation right now. As long as Vegas is still paying him and isn't breaking the rules, no significant punishments will be handed down. That alone should be a big enough reason for people to let go of the issue.

But it's also Kelly McCrimmon and company handling business like pros. Again, imagine if your old coach was behind the bench for another team. You face his new team and you lose in the playoffs to him. Suddenly, you feel a strong sense of regret and wish that you hadn't let him go in the first place.

Would you want him to go to that rival? How would you feel if Cassidy were relieved of his duties by the Oilers and were being contacted by the Golden Knights? Would you still have the same reaction to this situation as you do to this current scenario?

That's something that most hockey fans, let alone in Edmonton and Los Angeles, don't grasp. The NHL is a business and the main objective is winning. Sure, you want to win and get the best head coach possible. However, you must also see the other side that thinks about where your rivals will be in the future.
