Mark Stone snagged his 600th career point, and Adin Hill had 23 saves in a 3-1 Golden Knights win over the Buffalo Sabres. Tanner Laczynski and Jack Eichel also scored for Vegas, who ran their league best Home record to 17-4-0.
James Reimer had 30 saves and Jason Zucker scored for the Sabres who lost their third straight after winning three in a row the week before.
Coming into the game, Buffalo had scored 43 goals (good for third in the league) and a +14 goal difference in the first period (good for second). So the fact they came out with a considerable amount of pep against Vegas isn’t that surprising. Outside from Jason Zucker’s chance in the opening minute, they didn’t threaten Adin Hill that much. Then, thanks to Tanner Laczynski‘s first tally of the season, it came to bite them in the—you know what.
From there, the Golden Knights defensively essentially drained any speed or energy from the Sabres for a good eight minutes. Then, the "Dynamic Duo" arrived- this time Eichel to Stone on a trademark dash deflection in front of James Reimer.
The Vegas Golden Knights held off the Sabres the rest of the way
The goal established a sense through the rest of the period that this would be a “Ditch the Tie, Dance like Charlie XCX” kind of night for Vegas. The first 7:28 of the second period did nothing to dissuade this vibe, with the Golden Knights registering the first six shots on their way to an overall 12-4 advantage in the period.
The Sabres were able to generate some semblance of life from their first power play chance. It was nothing that threatened to cut the deficit in half, or that lasted more than a few minutes afterward. Like the first period, Reimer was the sole reason Buffalo maintained a microscopic chance in this game.
Going into the third period, after a little flicker of life to start the period, things resumed the looming sense of a third Vegas goal that loomed over most of the second period. Finally, coming off a nice breakaway started by Noah Hanifin nearly eight minutes in, Eichel lowered the boom for his 11th goal and 18th two-point game of the season.
After that, it was pretty much it in terms of game action. There were a couple of power play opportunities for both teams. There were more little flickers of life from Buffalo that the Golden Knights would squash. Then Jason Zucker scored off a brilliantly timed deflection which beat Hill on the one-hop to break the ice, adding a little spice. Unfortunately, it wasn't spicy enough for Buffalo fans. Oh well. At least you have football to fall back on.

A little journey back to the Shark Tank on Tuesday night to take on Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks at 7:30 P.M awaits. The Sharks are bad, as we all know. But they also have the kind of goaltending, as New Jersey figured out earlier Saturday night, that can forcefully grab points and wins like a grappling hook. So this will probably be another interesting night in Northern California. Until then…
