Nicolas Hague and Zach Whitecloud

Strengths:

If you like defensive hockey and tell everyone that Nicklas Lidstrom's your favorite player, this is the pairing for you. Sure, they're not as flashy as Noah Hanifin and Alex Pietrangelo. They're also not as well-known to the Vegas Golden Knights fanbase as Shea Theodore and Brayden McNabb. However, Nicolas Hague and Zach Whitecloud get the job done.

From a hitting standpoint, they're not afraid of getting dirty (Whitecloud has 52 hits this season while Hague has 43). They're also not afraid of using their bodies for defensive purposes (Whitecloud has 57 blocked shots while Hague has 40). Whenever Bruce Cassidy needs to balance the lineup from being too offensively focused, count on the pair to create magic...

Weaknesses:

...Just don't expect too much offensive magic from the duo. Whitecloud has three goals and four assists this season, while Hague has three goals and two assists. Advanced statistics tell another story, where Whitecloud's on-ice expected goals percentage is 48.9%, compared to 56.3% when he's off the ice. Add a relative expected goals percentage of -9.8% and he's not doing much with the puck.

The same can be said for Hague, who has worse puck possession and shot attempts than Whitecloud. His Corsi (42%) and Fenwick (44%) are less than desirable and the Golden Knights are expected to score 41.9% when he's on the ice. When Hague's off? The Golden Knights are expected to score 55.3% of the time. Add in a relative expected goals percentage of -13.4% and the pair isn't expected to do much with the puck.
