Vegas Golden Knights fans haven't heard much about Adin Hill since he suffered a debilitating lower-body injury earlier this season. No, we're not talking about that one time in Calgary. That's different. Still, he's hidden away from the spotlight, tending to his own business. You know.
Chillin'.
Hillin.
That's been his whole persona since he left an October game against the Carolina Hurricanes. Just lie low and let nature take its course. Heal up the body and you'll eventually be good to go. Sounds good, right?
Well, the 2026 Olympic rosters are supposed to be set by December 31. It doesn't matter if it's the Canadians eating poutine (which is magically delicious, by the way) or the good ol' U.S. of A. Everyone must finalize their rosters and prepare for a smaller sheet of ice. However, there's a catch to this, too.
Some NHL players aren't keen on playing on said smaller sheet of ice. I don't know whether they're claustrophobic or don't like rubbing up against each other. Whatever it is, it also leaves them prone to more injuries. If there's a thing the Golden Knights are known for, it's getting hurt and (allegedly) circumventing the salary cap.
Still, that leaves the 29-year-old in the crosshairs? Will he magically heal up in time to make the roster? Will there be any Team Canada players, specifically goaltenders, who will bail on the Olympics like they were a bad Italian date?
What exactly is going on with Adin Hill that could cause him to miss the 2026 Olympics?
Remember the game against the Carolina Hurricanes? I'm talking about the home victory where the Golden Knights were in full-on God Mode. Jack Eichel took Carolina's lunch money and pulled its pants down, winning the game for Vegas.
Well, Hill got hurt in that game. Akira Schmid stepped in to relieve him and pitched a phenomenal game, stopping 22 of 23 shots. However, the bigger story was that the Calgary native went down with a lower-body injury, with rumors swirling that the injury was much more severe.
We're talking about the 29-year-old possibly being out for months. That means the Golden Knights are looking at a goaltender committee here. That means Schmid possibly carrying a heavier workload than he's accustomed to seeing and a raw Carl Lindbom. With that comes the looming possibility of missing the Olympics.
Adin Hill probably won't worry too much about the Olympics, anyways
Of course, there's the underlying controversy regarding the rink that puts everything in jeopardy. That makes it seem unlikely that he'll play for Team Canada. But hey. There have been crazier things that happened before. It'd be like a cinematic movie.
Still, the Golden Knights have seen firsthand what happens when players participate in international tournaments. Look at what happened with Shea Theodore and his wrist last season. The Golden Knights didn't have a solid puck-moving defenseman for part of the season, all because of the injury that happened at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
That could be the case for Hill, should he somehow return. Given his injury of getting hurt, it would put the Golden Knights' goaltending situation in flux again. That's something that fans don't want to see any time soon.
