Things to see, things to do

I'd need hundreds of pages to cover everything worth doing in D.C., so I'll try to keep it brief and scratch the surface a little. Unfortunately, unlike Montreal, there's no stadium tour option here, nor are there any statues or displays outside of Capital One Arena. Maybe one day, when Ovechkin retires. However, that doesn't mean there's nothing to do overall.

Of course, you can't talk about Washington without mentioning the museums. So many museums. There's a wide range, but my personal favorites would have to be the all-National Mall group of the Air and Space Museum, the National Gallery of Art, the Natural History Museum, and the Hirshhorn Gallery (modern art). Really, I strongly recommend anything on the Mall, though the Air and Space and African-American History and Culture museums require free timed-entry passes. For those that want something a little more interactive and/or less history-based, the International Spy Museum is more than worth the price of admission. For those that want to stick close to the arena, you're in luck, because the Smithsonian's National Portrait Gallery/National American Art Museum is immediately across the street.

There's also a ton of unique neighborhoods, ranging from Adams Morgan and its incredible Alex Ovechkin mural, to Georgetown, with its shops, restaurants, and beautiful architecture along the Potomac River. I recommend skipping Georgetown Cupcake, though, as it's a tourist trap.

Beyond that, there are all the monuments, countless great restaurants, the White House, the Capitol, the Library of Congress, and so on. You'll genuinely never run out of things to do here - I still haven't, and besides college, I've never lived outside of the region.
