You know, January hasn't been too bad for Vegas Golden Knights fans. Heck, you can say that it's been excellent for the fanbase with the team going 7-1-1 this month, entering Monday. But there's another good bit of news that Golden Knights fans got: Rasmus Andersson.
In comes the Calgary Flames defenseman and out goes Zach Whitecloud, a couple of draft picks, and Abram Weibe. Already, Golden Knights fans will love that he has 10 goals and 20 assists this season. An offensive bite makes him a potent weapon, giving Vegas another dimension on the attack.
You know that offense is always a great thing. When you have a team consisting of players like Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner, and Mark Stone, you can literally do anything. Add another Olympian to the mix and you have a dynamic team that could win the Stanley Cup.
But being offensively inclined isn't the only reason why fans should be excited. Golden Knights fans have three reasons why the Swedish superstar will be exciting for fans. Prepare to stare into the glass after a goal because it's time to meet the new acquisition!
1.) Rasmus Andersson knows how to finish
It's no secret that Rasmus Andersson knows how to score goals. He has 10 goals upon arriving at Harry Reid International Airport, making him a potent offensive weapon. You can't just attribute his scoring ability to his grit and tenacity, though.
Andersson is a terrific finisher, attacking the net and finding the perfect spot. He uses that tenacity to attack the net, jumping to the net for open pucks. That makes him an incredible asset for any offensive facet, especially on the rush. On the note of tenacity...
2.) Andersson's tenacity rubs off on his teammates
The Swedish Olympian has been known for his infectious play style, characterized by grit. Those puck battles and forechecking abilities make him a perfect fit in Bruce Cassidy's system.
Much has been said about the lack of accountability and tenacity over the years in the Golden Knights' lineup. The team has been notorious for a "country club" mentality over the years, leaving fans and experts to wonder if they're underachievers. Having Andersson on board fixes that, spreading a "can't die" attitude across his teammates.
3.) Andersson is the ultimate special teams weapon
As if the Golden Knights' special teams didn't need more bodies, now you've got Andersson coming on the unit. His power play talents are obvious with four goals and six assists on the unit. But he's also good on the other side of the coin.
The aforementioned puck battles, combined with an ability to take on bigger opponents, makes him great for the penalty kill. While William Karlsson might be absent for much longer than anticipated, having a fellow Swede step in should help ease the pressure.
