Theodore gives the Golden Knights a solid defensive group until 2027

When Kelly McCrimmon acquired Noah Hanifin from the Calgary Flames last season, many fans thought Theodore's time with the Golden Knights was up. Hanifin was a bigger version of the "Misfit," doing everything he could do, only with more defensive capabilities.

Instead, it gives Vegas a stellar defensive unit for the next three seasons minimum (at least on offense). Hanifin, Theodore, and Alex Pietrangelo all move the puck well, making them crucial cogs to the attack. All three run the power play great, using their hockey intelligence and awareness to set up plays.

This is important because of the historical context behind the unit. Before this season, the Golden Knights were successful on 19.6% of their power plays. They struggled to muster scoring opportunities for many reasons, including injuries and a lack of big bodies.

With Hertl and Hanifin in tow, Theodore and company should have an easier time setting up goals on the unit. That starts with the three core blue-liners, who will all serve a vital role in acting as secondary players on Vegas's attack. It could lead them to another Stanley Cup, with the party lasting all night.
