Sunday's victory over the Colorado Avalanche wasn't as convincing as Saturday's. You see, the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Avalanche, 3-2, marking a perfect 2-0 run at the 2025 Rookie Showcase. Obviously, that's dwarfed by an 8-1 rear-kicking delivered to the Stormin' Mammoth of Utah.
It's a convincing victory for people who thought the Golden Knights had a mediocre farm system. Some experts had the system ranked at the bottom throughout the NHL landscape. That's a small consequence for a competing team looking for another Stanley Cup.
Hey, some things require small sacrifices.
Still, an impressive showing requires looking at who shined. Obviously, you can say that everyone shined. The offense clicked, the back-checking was phenomenal, and the goaltenders were on point. In the words of Ice Cube, "Today Was A Good Day."
But we must narrow this list down to three players. After all, you can't make like Oprah Winfrey and merely hand out free cars to everyone. So, let's nominate the three biggest winners of the tournament and see who really stood out.
1.) Kai Uchacz
The Vegas Golden Knights are no strangers to controversy. Whether it's the tinfoil hat people accusing Mark Stone of intentionally hurting his spleen or drafting players with questionable pasts, they draw the ire of hockey fans everywhere. Heck, being linked to Carter Hart has set off a radioactive response within the community.
However, it seems that one of those controversial players is righting the ship. He scored three goals during the Rookie Showcase, cementing his status as an under-the-radar prospect. Don't be surprised if Uchacz builds off his solid 2024-25 campaign (15 goals and 15 assists).
2.) Mateo Nobert
You don't expect much from the new kids on the block heading into the regular season. However, the third-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft was incredible during the 2025 Rookie Showcase.
Nobert scored two goals and an assist, showcasing an offensive prowess that was unmatched. The forward looked comfortable in the Golden Knights offense, adapting to every play while firing blistering shots. Watch for the youngster to move his way up the rankings during his NHL venture.
3.) Joe Fleming
Two goals in the 2025 Rookie Showcase are enough to raise eyebrows. That's especially true for a forgotten player trying to get back on his feet. Last season, he had two goals and three assists in all competitions (41 games).
That's not enough to make an impressive impact at the NHL level. However, two goals in the 2025 Rookie Showcase will raise some eyebrows. That's also enough to build confidence heading into the 2025-26 season.
