If Golden Knights win Stanley Cup, who should Mark Stone pass it to first?

The Vegas Golden Knights are just one win away from taking home the Stanley Cup, if all goes well for them, they could be celebrating a championship tonight all along the Vegas Strip. One big moment after winning the Cup comes when you watch the players pass around the trophy.

The captain of the winning team is the first player to hoist the Stanley Cup each season. After that, the players pass the trophy amongst themselves, which always makes for a special moment when the captain first passes it to someone else.

In past seasons, the trophy has usually gone to someone who has waited a long time to win the Stanley Cup, or sometimes the captain passes it to a player who has had a very big impact on the team and is like a second captain, either way, there are a lot of options for who should get the Stanley Cup after Mark Stone should the Golden Knights win it all tonight.

If Golden Knights win the Stanley Cup, who should Stone pass it to first?

There are a few different options for who should get the Stanley Cup first after Mark Stone. Guys like Jack Eichel, any member of the original six Golden Knights or even goaltender Adin Hill could make sense to hoist the Stanley Cup after Stone.

The player who I think makes the most sense would be Jonathan Marchessault. Marchessault has been with the Golden Knights since the beginning of the franchise, and he has been an instrumental part of their roster over the years. He has been a big part of the team’s success this postseason and is a good candidate to get the Stanley Cup after Stone.

The 32-year-old has never won a Stanley Cup before, the closest he got was the 2018 Stanley Cup Final with Vegas where he had 21 points playing an instrumental role in the team getting to the Final. If Stone passes the Stanley Cup to Marchessault, I hope then Marchessault and the other core members from the beginning of the franchise can pass the trophy to each other, but we will have to wait and see what happens.

I think there is another person deserving of getting the Stanley Cup after Mark Stone. The Golden Knights are in Vegas and are a franchise because of owner Bill Foley. They are one win away from making his goal of winning the Stanley Cup in six seasons a reality, and he very well should get the Stanley Cup early in the celebration.

I love that in hockey the players get the trophy before management and ownership get to celebrate with it. But a team winning the Stanley Cup in their first six seasons in the modern NHL would definitely be a unique situation.

First things first, the Golden Knights need to go out and get one more win. Game 5 will be a big night for Vegas!
