Three Stars: Panthers 2, Golden Knights 1 – 3/7/23
The Golden Knights started off a five game road trip with a 2-1 loss to the Florida Panthers, but there were some bright spots on the ice for Vegas. The loss comes at a critical time in the jockeying of playoff positions with the next game coming against the always dangerous Tampa Bay Lightning. Here are our three stars for the game against the Florida Panthers:
The legend of Adin Hill continues for the Golden Knights. After stopping 50 combined shots against the New Jersey Devils. Despite not getting the win against Florida, Hill held his own and saved 40 of the 42 shots in the game. Keeping his team in the game is a true testament to his efforts. On any other night, his performance would be at the top of the headline in the game results.
To Shea Theodore’s credit, he did produce the one goal that seemingly gave the Golden Knights some life and an opportunity to climb back into it. At the time, the Golden Knights trailed the Panthers 2-0 and his goal came during a power play with nearly three quarters of the period gone by. It was Theodore’s eighth goal of the season and was also his second in as many games.
While it is rather unnoticeable on the scoresheet and in the grand scheme of things with the loss, the play of Alec Martinez was absolutely worth recognizing. Over the course of the game, Martinez would get three critical shots on goal that would give Sergei Bobrovsky some challenge in net. However that was not the only thing that earned him the nod as he also planted five very big blocked shots throughout the game. The five blocked shots were best amongst the players on both sides of the ice.
