The Vegas Golden Knights are all but finished in 2021, and with that comes recaps. Now, there are going to be a lot of these types of articles coming in the next couple days. But for at least today, we’re going to be ranking the top five goals this season.

With 2021 having been quite the roller coaster, it’s time to reflect on the good. Given everything that has happened, not just for the Vegas Golden Knights but the entire league, everyone could use a little good to cheer them up. So if you’re a fan of one of the teams that are getting scored on, I’d recommend not being here. This is supposed to cheer people up, not hurt.

Before we get too far into this, I should say that this was not easy to do by any stretch of the imagination. However, this is in fact the list that I feel is pretty accurate. If you have a different choice of goals- feel free to comment down below and let us know you’re thoughts and what you would change. With out further to do, let’s get into it.

Shea Theodore Ties it Against the New York Islanders

In a hard fought match and there were a lot of questions early on as to who was going to take this game. The Vegas Golden Knights took an early lead by a Jonathan Marchessault goal against the New York Islanders. However, it wasn’t long until the Islanders answered.

I’d go into the full story about the game, but here’s what you need to know- In the third period, there was very little hope after the Islanders answered a Theodore goal with two of theirs. Those two goals gave the Islanders the lead with only about three minutes left on the clock.

The Vegas Golden Knights preceded to pull goalie, Robin Lehner in order to gain an extra attacker with a minute left. In doing so, it allowed the Knights to play a strong possession game in the offensive zone which lead to the goal that I currently have listed as the fifth best goal of the season.

Reilly Smith Gets the Breakaway Goal Against the Colorado Avalanche

Looking back to early on in the season when the Vegas Golden Knights took on Western Conference rival, the Colorado Avalanche, there were a lot of good parts of that game.

It was early on in the game- only 9:37 into the first period when the Avalanche got a power play. Although, the Avalanche did get a power play, the Knights did already have the 1-0 lead. Therefore, this penalty kill wasn’t super crucial but would still be nice in order to shut the Avalanche out. so it wasn’t that crucial. However, when a team goes on a power play, you’d expect a goal but not by the team on the penalty kill.

In this case that is exactly what happened, and it was quite the goal by Knights forward, Reilly Smith.

Mark Stone Get’s His Second to Tie it Up in the Third

For those of you who haven’t had the chance to watch many Vegas Golden Knight games this season, I’ll kind of give a back story to this season on what makes this so special;

In the second game of the season the Golden Knights Captain, Mark Stone, went down with an non-contact injury. Stone had a breakaway up the ice against the Los Angeles Kings and when going to take a shot off his leg, he actually hurt himself. He later went on to miss a month along with wing, Max Pacioretty.

Mark Stone has always been considered one of the Vegas Golden Knights best players, but this season was different. After returning from his lower-body injury, he wasn’t exactly the player we thought we were going to get. He went on a goal drought that visibly hurt him and irritated him. After missing shots or opportunities he would slam his stick on the boards or act out in emotion. It was also reported that his leadership became “toxic”.

However, that changed tonight and in the best possible way. Mark Stone found some luck after a couple weeks without a goal and in the third period, he found a way to tie it up with the Dallas Stars. That goal helped the Knights get some energy and morale going and they ultimately got the win. It was a great win for the Knights and we have Stone to thank.

Brett Howden Get’s a Breakaway Goal with Pure Speed

Brett Howden who was traded for by the Vegas Golden Knights this off-season wasn’t projected to be anything other than a grinder for the Knights. However, you know what they say: always be ready because you never know when your time will come. That was the case for Brett Howden.

Howden who was a former New York Ranger, found himself heading a couple thousand miles west in order to get to the desert his off-season and he’s found a spot on this roster. Well, at least for this season. Anyways, let’s talk about this goal.

When the Vegas Golden Knights faced the Carolina Hurricanes, it was quite the challenge. It was before they were dealing with all their covid-19 cases, and injuries and they were red hot. In fact, they were probably the best team in hockey at that point. Nonetheless, the better of the two teams find a way and although that wasn’t the Knights forward, Brett Howden made an impact with this incredible goal;

Jonathan Marchessault Get’s His 100th Goal as a Vegas Golden Knight

Milestone Alert! How about that? One of the misfits got his 100th goal as a Vegas Golden Knight. And before you ask, yes this deserves to be number one.

Jonathan Marchessault has arguably been one of the best offensive players for the Vegas Golden Knights this season. Additionally, I feel that if he isn’t first he has to be number two because he’s played amazing this season despite everything he’s had to adjust to.

In this game against the Vancouver Canucks, it was Mark Stone’s first game back so all eyes were on Stone. Furthermore, by the end of the game, more eyes were on Jonathan Marchessault.

It was the third period with 12 minutes on the clock and the Vegas Golden Knights were tied with the Vancouver Canucks. The Knights knew that they needed to find a way to win, and that meant putting the puck on the hot stick of Marchessault- that is exactly what they did.

The Knights being on the power play had a lot of offensive puck control and were rotating the puck well. Pietrangelo, who was sitting at the blue line received the puck and laid it out to Marchessault on the wing. He moved the puck to his forehand and let it rip to give the Knights the 5-4 lead with 11:36 left in the third.

What a great moment for the Vegas Golden Knights and Jonathan Marchessault.

In conclusion, the Vegas Golden Knights have had a lot of great moments this season. I mean, when you have a team as talented as the Knights, it’s hard not to compile a list of great goals. However, I do feel that this list exemplifies the top goals of the season.
