The Vegas Knights got their first win in four games against the Avalanche, the Knights showed up against the Stars to secure their second win in a row. The guy who saved the game: Laurent Brossoit.
The Vegas Golden Knights got their first win against the Avalanche, and were able to get the overtime victory against the Stars. After losing four straight, the Knights stuck with Robin Lehner in goal. However, after Lehner backed the win against Colorado, they decided to give new goalie, Laurent Brossoit the start against Dallas.
The Knights were drawing some terrible fortune with their injuries but yesterday, things were turning around. After losing defenseman, Alec Martinez, against the St. Louis Blues, he returned yesterday by surprise. Seeing Martinez on the ice with Shea Theodore definitely gave the Knights some much needed help on the defensive side of things. However, they once again went down another man with William Carrier leaving the game in the second period. Although that should be talked about a little bit, there’s a bigger topic I want to talk about. Can you guess it by the title? That’s right! Laurent Brossoit.
Laurent Brossoit Contract
Laurent Brossoit came in as a free agent after trading away Marc-Andre Fleury. After playing a couple seasons with Winnipeg, he signed a two-year contract worth $4.6 million dollars. Looking at the signing I was hoping that they’d bring in someone a little more reputable, but it’s clear that’s wasn’t the case. They traded Marc-Andre Fleury to the Blackhawks because they didn’t want, nor could they afford, to pay two goalies those contracts. So they went out and signed a goalie with upside to backup Lehner for the next two seasons.
Laurent Brossoit’s Incredible Outing
Laurent Brossoit was given the chance to make his first official regular season start yesterday against the Stars. Although that was his first official start as a Knight, he did see the ice against the Los Angeles Kings earlier on in the season. However, to get back on topic, after getting his first chance to start, he exceeded everyone’s expectations. In fact, you could make the argument that he was the most valuable player yesterday. I mean he did come up with a save that quite literally saved the game for the Knights.
In the third-period the Stars had the lead 2-1. It was definitely looking scary for the Knights being in the situation they were, but then something happened. The Knights wing, Jonathan Marchessault, found himself in a situation on the wing to take a one-timer. The Knights went with the empty net with 1:06 left on the clock when Theodore came into the zone with the puck. Theodore from the top of the offensive zone laid one out for the Marchessault one-timer that tied the game up.
With under one minute left, the Stars found themselves in the perfect situation to end it. However, Brossoit had a different plan. After a mishandle of the puck in front of the net, he laid off a backdoor pass that Brossoit was able to deflect outside of the goal.
That save was one of the many he made yesterday that left me speechless. Brossoit had a incredible game against the Stars that gives me a lot more faith that the Knights actually have two very good goalies to chose from. I know it was only one game, but he looked extremely agile and quick getting to those backdoor shots.
