The Injuries Continue to Pile up for the Knights
What has gone the Knights way this season? Answer: Nothing. After getting Alec Martinez back for the game tonight against the Stars, they have lost Mattias Janmark with an upper body injury. In the second period, they have now lost William Carrier after taking a shot to the leg.
The Vegas Golden Knights have not had anything go their way this season it seems like. Even to start the season, they had to deal with injuries to multiple players. In game one they had Alex Tuch, Mattias Janmark, William Carrier, and Nicolas Roy out. After getting the first win of the season against the Seattle Kraken, they have had a terrible turn of fortune. Since game one they have lost a player a game and there have been some key players.
In their second game of the season against the Los Angeles Kings they lost star wingers: Mark Stone, and Max Pacioretty. Mark Stone, is a vital part of the Knights and him not being apart of the team is leaving their power play without one of the stars. With that being said, let’s look at the other star on the power play. Looking at his counter-part, Max Pacioretty, he suffered a lower-body injury that game that has side-lined him since that point. It was reported that he was going to miss roughly 6-8 weeks while he recovers.
In their third game of the season against the Blues, they had another tough loss. After getting through the first couple periods, they ended up losing defenseman, Alec Martinez. Martinez’s injury was undisclosed to the public, but whatever the injury happened to be, it side-lined him for the next couple games.
In their fourth game this season they lost Zach Whitecloud against the Oilers. After taking a blocked shot, it was clear that he was in some discomfort. After showing a lot of pain on his facial expression, he then went into the tunnel and has been out since. To make that part worse, they were at the time, without Alec Martinez as well. So they lost two of their top defenseman in the matter of two games-not great. It still gets worse though if you can believe that.
In their fifth game, there was a surprise injury to Nolan Patrick that kept him out of the game against the New York Islanders, the Colorado Avalanche, and now the Dallas Stars. However, looking at this Dallas Stars game you probably have realized that there is a name missing yet again. Well, I suppose two names are missing: Mattias Janmark, and now William Carrier.
William Carrier left the game after taking a shot to his leg. After trying to get up on his own power, it was clear he was in pain and needed help getting off the ice. Since that point, he hasn’t stepped on the ice, and based upon reports, will likely be out the rest of the game. After missing the first game of the season, he will now be out for at least this game and maybe more.
It’s clear that nothing it going to Knights way this season, and that could be the argument made for their rough start to the season. However, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, “The thing that separates good teams from great teams is their ability to overcome the challenges they face in the regular season.”
