Vegas Golden Knights overcome late scare to win a huge one in Calgary
Three Stars of the Game
- Nick Holden – The defenseman has endured a bit of a tough stretch since signing a new two-year, $3,400,000 contract at the Trade Deadline. Holden was on the ice for a bucketload of goals and was struggling, but he really rebounded nicely on Sunday. The veteran finished with a two-point night with a goal and an assist, and his goal came after he jumped up into the play before finishing a nice feed from Nick Cousins. This was a big game from Holden who finished with a +1 rating in 14:05 minutes of total ice time.
- William Karlsson – After going 21 games without a goal, the forward has begun to find his groove at just the right time for the Golden Knights. Karlsson has really meshed well on a line with Max Pacioretty and Nicolas Roy, and he recorded his second multi-point night in his last five games on Sunday. The center tallied a beautiful primary helper on Max Pacioretty’s power play goal in the second period, before registering an assist on Jonathan Marchessault’s empty-netter.
- Shea Theodore – This has been a hell of a season for the defenseman, who has already set career-highs in assists (33) and points (45). And, in scoring the game-winner against the Calgary Flames from an impossible angle, Theodore equalled his previous career-high of 12 goals. Theodore is on a rapid trajectory towards becoming one of the best young two-way defensemen in the NHL, and this was another big game with the 24-year-old finishing with one point, five shots on goal, one blocked shot and one takeaway in 22:47 minutes of average ice time.
Looking Ahead
The Vegas Golden Knights are straight back in action on Monday when they face off with the Edmonton Oilers in what is a huge second game of the back-to-back.
They will then get a couple of days off before taking on the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, and then finishing off the road trip in Colorado against the Avalanche on Sunday.
