3. Trust The Process
The Kansas City Chiefs know who they are and they never wavered from that identity, even with the San Francisco 49ers bossing proceedings for a large portion of Super Bowl LIV in Miami on Sunday.
The Chiefs are an uber-elite offensive juggernaut that can boast a star-studded quarterback in Patrick Mahomes, who is on a scary trajectory that could lead him to becoming one of the best to have ever done it.
But Mahomes is also surrounded by a plethora of potent weapons, including one of the best Tight Ends in the NFL in Travis Kelce, in addition to speed demons in the ilk of Sammy Watkins and Tyreek Hill.
Kansas also boasts weapons on the defensive side of the ball in Frank Clark, Tyrann Mathieu and Chris Jones.
In other words, they are stacked and are standing on the precipice of becoming the next dynasty in the NFL.
The Chiefs are one of the most dynamic offensive teams in football and their offense is the straw that stirs their incredibly tasty drink.
As such, they put their faith in their big-game players and let them continue to do their thing despite the fact that they had been shackled and stifled by that uber-talented 49ers defense for most of the Super Bowl.
Cream eventually rises to the top, though, and as they had done in their previous two postseason outings, the Kansas City Chiefs seized control of the game by doing what they had done all year.
They stunned San Francisco with 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and consigned their opponents to death by a thousand cuts as Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and running back Damien Williams all delivered in big moments.
And this is the lesson that probably means the most to the Vegas Golden Knights.
Establishing an identity under new Head Coach Peter DeBoer, the Knights will need to establish who they are by the time the postseason arrives and stick to that identity.
They also need to trust the process and allow their big hitters to express themselves and do what they do best.
Even when things aren’t going well, Vegas must stick to their guns and keep believing in their core principles as a team.
If they do that and not lose faith then the rest should work itself out, just as it did for the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, resulting in ultimate glory.
The Chiefs knew who they were, stuck to their guns and that allowed them to obliterate a deficit of 10 points by scoring three touchdowns over the course of just five minutes to stun and overwhelm a stellar San Francisco 49ers defense and, ultimately, win the Super Bowl.
So, although football and hockey are two completely different sports, the Vegas Golden Knights can take a lot of inspiration from Super Bowl LIV champions the Kansas City Chiefs as they strive to make their own slice of history this year.
