Final Verdict

There is no doubt that Tony DeAngelo is a talent on the rise in the National Hockey League and he would be the puck-moving defenseman the Vegas Golden Knights so crave.

He can slot straight into the top four, he can log big minutes, he can quarterback the power play and he would also add balance to the defensive pairings.

DeAngelo also plays with a real edge and he has a gritty side to his game, which means that you can rely on him in the defensive zone in addition to bringing a high level of energy to the team.

He’s on pace for a career-year and, currently carrying a cap hit of $925,000, the Golden Knights won’t have to do too much work in order to create the cap space to acquire him.

They will have to pay the blueliner in the summer, however, but the Knights will have over $15 million in cap space in which to play with.

Vegas won’t have to give up a boatload either given that DeAngelo is on an expiring contract, coupled with the fact that the New York Rangers are in salary cap hell themselves.

Next. The one that got away. dark

Prospects in the ilk of Nicolas Roy, Jake Bischoff and Zach Whitecloud could be included in a trade package, along with a couple of picks. In my opinion, that would be enough for the Blueshirts who are rebuilding and are stocking up on young assets.

So, overall, I think it makes perfect sense for the Vegas Golden Knights to pursue Tony DeAngelo at the Trade Deadline in order to bolster their roster ahead of a deep postseason run, while keeping the flexibility to still go after an absolute stud in Alex Pietrangelo during the off-season.
