Vegas Golden Knights: Dorofeyev shines as Team Russia advance at WJC
Vegas Golden Knights prospect Pavel Dorofeyev stole the show as Team Russia stamped their ticket to the Quarter-Finals of the 2020 World Junior Championships by thrashing Germany 6-1 earlier today.
With just one point to his name heading into Team Russia’s final Group B game, the Vegas Golden Knights forward broke out offensively.
And it was a potent display from Team Russia who were in control of the contest from the very first drop of the puck.
Kirill Marchenko scored twice in the first period to reward Team Russia’s dominance, with another Vegas Golden Knights prospect in Ivan Morozov tallying an assist on Marchenko’s first goal.
And then came the Pavel Dorofeyev show in the second period. After Grigori Denisenko extended his team’s lead, Dorofeyev stepped up to effectively ice the game for Team Russia.
On their fourth power play attempt of the night, Dorofeyev was picked out in the circle and the high-end prospect unleashed a hell of a snipe to make it 4-0, showcasing his powerful release in the process.
And Dorofeyev tallied his second power play goal of the game minutes later, again scoring from the circle after beating a sprawling Hendrik Hane with an unstoppable wrister.
Dmitri Voronkov then added a sixth goal for Team Russia although they were unable to secure the shutout with Nino Kinder scoring on the breakaway for Germany in the third period.
It was a dominant win for Team Russia and an impressive showing from Pavel Dorofeyev, who will now get to showcase his considerable talents in the Quarter-Finals later this week.
Dorofeyev was a +3 in 11:36 minutes of total ice time for Team Russia, finishing the game with three shots on goal.
Meanwhile, Team USA beat the hosts the Czech Republic 4-3 in overtime on Monday, with Anaheim Ducks prospect Trevor Zegras the star with two assists.
However, it was another frustrating game for Vegas Golden Knights prospect Isaiah Saville, who didn’t dress yet again.
The goalie has yet to feature at the 2020 World Junior Championships, and it remains to be seen whether or not he sees any action for the remainder of the tournament in the Czech Republic.
