The Vegas Golden Knights were no match for Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers as they finished their four-game homestand with a second straight loss.

Looking to bounce back from their Overtime loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday, the Vegas Golden Knights couldn’t get going offensively and were outclassed by a better Oilers team.

Connor McDavid scored two goals, including the first and last goals of the game, while Ethan Bear and Markus Granlund also got on the board for Edmonton.

Cody Eakin recorded his third goal in four games to make it a one-goal game at the end of the first period, while Shea Theodore scored a filthy effort to again give the Golden Knights a lifeline.

However, Vegas just couldn’t click offensively and it was a tough loss given that they have now lost further ground on the Oilers in the Pacific Division.

Let’s go over our biggest takeaways from the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers…

1. The Brilliance of McDavid & Draisaitl

We are currently in the midst of an exciting new era in the National Hockey League where a plethora of young studs are taking over the game.

And two of the biggest stars play in Edmonton.

Connor McDavid is one of if not the best player in the league right now, while Leon Draisaitl is rapidly developing into an elite star in his own right.

And the dynamic duo were at the peak of their powers against the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday, combining for five points.

Draisaitl tallied three assists and grabbed the primary helpers on both of McDavid’s goals, including a sublime dish to set up a one-timer on the power play in the third period.

They ripped the Vegas defense to shreds and there was nothing the Golden Knights could do to combat the pair who ran riot all night long.

McDavid and Draisaitl have combined for just under 100 points this season, with McDavid registering 47 points (18 goals, 29 assists) and Draisaitl has 16 goals and 32 assists for 48 points.

Both players are at their peak right now and they are leading the pack of elite young guns currently tearing up the NHL.
