Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights are now 11-9-3 on the year and have opened up this four game homestand with two consecutive victories.
  • The Knights have now won back-to-back games after dropping five straight, and they seem to be turning a corner in a number of aspects.
  • Let’s talk about Marc-Andre Fleury. What a night it was for the future Hall of Famer who stopped 31 of the 33 shots he faced, including producing the save of the year after absolutely robbing Nic Petan with the best glove save you will ever see.
  • And, lost in all the hype and headlines, Fleury also became only the seventh goaltender in the history of the NHL to reach 450 wins. What a night it was for the elite veteran.
  • As they did against the Calgary Flames on Sunday, the Golden Knights played a real gritty game in the first two periods before showing their class in the final period.
  • They did get a fightback from the Toronto Maple Leafs, but that is to be expected given that they were a desperate hockey team with five straight defeats under their belt prior to last night.
  • It was also a hell of night for rookie Cody Glass, who achieved the first multi-point night of his NHL career with a goal and an assist.
  • Max Pacioretty also recorded a two-point night with two assists, including a helper on Cody Eakin’s second goal in as many games.
  • Tomas Nosek registered his fourth goal of the year and it was arguably his best of the season so far; stealing the puck, going on a breakaway, deking Frederik Andersen and then scoring on the backhand.
  • Mark Stone moved on to 20 points on the year (10 goals, 10 assists) after scoring his 10th goal of the season, and his fifth power play goal of the year.
  • Nate Schmidt tallied his fifth assist in the last two games while Shea Theodore also recorded a helper on Mark Stone’s goal.
  • And Jonathan Marchessault registered point No.16 of the year after recording a helper on Cody Eakin’s empty net goal.
  • The season series between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Toronto Maple Leafs is now over, with both teams picking up a win each.
  • Vegas went a perfect 2-for-2 on the power play which is now ranked sixth in the NHL with a percentage of 23.7.
  • And they killed off one of Toronto’s two attempts on the power play, with the Knights’ penalty kill currently ranked 4th in the league (86.3).
  • There were hardly any penalties in this game with both teams taking four penalty minutes each, and that allowed the contest to really flow.
  • Vegas outhit the Maple Leafs 30-28 and also won out in the shot blocking department by a total of 22-19.
  • However, the Golden Knights did cough up 10 Giveaways compared to Toronto’s four, although it didn’t matter in the end.
  • Nate Schmidt led all Vegas Golden Knights skaters in total ice time with 21:07, including time on both the power play and on the penalty kill.
