Is this the weekend the Vegas Golden Knights finally get back on track? They face a big game on the road against a rebuilding LA Kings team this afternoon.

After dropping their last four games and losing six of seven, the Vegas Golden Knights are in need of a win and tonight is the perfect place to start.

The first game of a back-to-back, with the Calgary Flames coming up tomorrow, is a huge one for the Golden Knights who have fallen off a cliff in the month of November.

Blown leads, lack of offense, sloppy defense, you name it the Knights have suffered from it all and they come into tonight’s contest sitting fifth in the Pacific Division.

The LA Kings (7-11-1), meanwhile are in the first phase of a rebuild and they are currently bottom of the Pacific, although they have won two games in a row.

However, this is going to be a long season for the Kings and they will no doubt be looking to claim a win against the Knights tonight in what will be forward Jeff Carter‘s 1,000th career NHL regular season game.

The Kings rank badly in a number of categories and are 29th on the power play (10.3), 29th on the penalty kill (72.3), 27th in Goals For Per Game (2.58) and 30th in Goals Against Per Game (3.63).

Veteran forward Anze Kopitar leads the team in points with 21 (seven goals, 14 assists), while Drew Doughty is second with four goals and seven assists for 11 points.

The Kings are a big, physical team that can lay the body on hard but they lack in speed, and that is an area the Golden Knights could look to exploit.

With just one win in their last seven, the Knights (9-8-3) have made some lineup changes for today’s matchup.

Malcolm Subban, who is 0-2-2 in four starts this year with a 2.68 GAA and a .914 Sv%, gets the start in goal while Nicolas Roy is a healthy scratch with Tomas Nosek slotting in as the fourth line center.

Cody Eakin will once again center the second line as the Knights continue to look for ways to get their offense going, which is currently ranked 19th in the NHL with an average of 2.85 Goals For Per Game.

One bugaboo of the Golden Knights this year has been their inability to play a full 60 minute game, and they have a plethora of blown leads to their name this month alone.

Getting back to basics and playing a simple game of hockey will be key to Vegas winning the game tonight.

The Vegas Golden Knights are 1-0-0 against the Los Angeles Kings this year after securing a 5-2 win at Staples Center in October, with Paul Stastny grabbing two power play goals.

Given their recent struggles, a similar result would be just what the doctor ordered for the Golden Knights who need to get their identity back.
