Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights are now 9-7-3 on the year after dropping six of their last eight games.
  • And, after losing this matchup in Detroit, the Knights finished the four-game road trip with a record of 1-2-1.
  • Last night’s loss is more shocking when you consider that the Detroit Red Wings had lost 12 of 13 games before beating the Boston Bruins on Friday.
  • Malcolm Subban got his fourth start of the year and finished the night with 16 saves from 19 shots, although he would want Detroit’s first goal back after Andreas Athanasiou put a shot under his pads.
  • Brayden McNabb was at fault for the Red Wings’ game-winner after pinching and allowing Anthony Mantha to breeze past him and get in behind.
  • It was just another example of the blueline woes that have severely hindered the Knights this year and it is more than a worrying trend now.
  • And it was also the third game in a row that Vegas imploded in the third period, with this road trip one to forget.
  • Jonathan Marchessault tallied his fourth goal of the year and the forward now has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) through 19 games.
  • Reilly Smith recorded his fifth assist of the year on Marchessault’s tuck, while Shea Theodore‘s secondary helper was his sixth assist of the season.
  • Max Pacioretty has been the Knights’ best player through this road trip and he potted his fourth goal in his last five games with a snipe in the second period.
  • Nicolas Roy picked up his first assist as a Golden Knight on that goal, while Ryan Reaves also tallied his first assist of the year.
  • Jon Merrill was a healthy scratch for the Golden Knights as Head Coach Gerard Gallant tried to spark a reaction from his team. It didn’t work on this occasion.
  • Vegas went 0-for-2 on the power play against the Red Wings and their man advantage unit is now ranked 14th in the NHL (21.2).
  • They also went 1-for-2 on the penalty kill after allowing a power play goal in the first period, with their PK currently ranked second in the National Hockey League (87.7).
  • The Golden Knights are currently averaging 2.84 Goals For Per Game, ranked 19th in the NHL, and 2.95 Goals Against Per Game, which is ranked 16th in the NHL.
  • Vegas were better than Detroit in the Faceoff circle with a winning percentage of 51%, although they were outhit 25-22 and had just five blocked shots compared to the Wings’ 13.
  • Nate Schmidt led all Golden Knights skaters with 21:41 minutes of total ice time, with Brayden McNabb a close second with 21:27.
  • The Official Three Stars of the Game were: 1. Anthony Mantha 2. Max Pacioretty 3. Madison Bowey.

Next. This year should be Engelland's last. dark

Looking Ahead

The Golden Knights have some time off before they are back in action when they take on the Chicago Blackhawks at T-Mobile Arena on Wednesday – 7:00 p.m. PT.

Vegas won in a shootout when the two franchises met at the United Center on Oct, 22, with Shea Theodore scoring the winning goal in the shootout.
