Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights are now 6-3-0 on the year after beating the Pittsburgh Penguins.
  • They are also 3-1-0 on the road in 2019-20 with two more road games coming up against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks before they head back home.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury has been simply sensational through nine games and he stood on his head against his former team, stopping all 29 shots fired at him for his first shutout of the year.
  • Fleury, who made a plethora of huge, huge saves, has now tied Terry Sawchuk for 7th all-time in wins (445), and Clint Benedict for 20th all-time in shutouts (58).
  • Paul Stastny potted his fourth goal of the year on the power play thanks to Cody Glass’ fourth assist of the year and Max Pacioretty‘s eighth helper in 2019-20.
  • Glass continues to highlight his elite playmaking abilities and he’s added a whole different dimension to the Golden Knights’ top power play unit.
  • William Karlsson finally got on the board with his first goal of the year after scoring an empty-netter while shorthanded, and the center now has eight points (one goal, seven assists) on the year.
  • Karlsson’s goal was Vegas’ fourth shorthanded goal of the year and it continues to illustrate just how lethal Karlsson and Reilly Smith are on that top penalty kill unit.

  • Mark Stone also scored an empty-netter and the elite two-way forward has been red hot to start the year with six goals and six assists for twelve points.
  • Deryk Engelland recorded his second assist of the year after tallying a helper on William Karlsson’s empty-netter in the third period.
  • The penalty kill was perfect again as it went 4-0 on the Pittsburgh Penguins’ power play, with Marc-Andre Fleury stopping all five of the shots fired at him with Vegas on the kill.
  • The Golden Knights’ penalty kill is now ranked 1st in the NHL (94.3).
  • Vegas’ power play was also good, going 1-for-3 and it now ranks fifth in the NHL (30.0).
  • The Knights also got the better of the Penguins in the faceoff circle with a winning percentage of 53 percent.
  • They also outhit the Penguins 38-31 with William Carrier and Ryan Reaves leading the way for the Knights with six hits apiece.
  • Brayden McNabb led all Vegas Golden Knights skaters in ice time with 22:10, with Deryk Engelland just behind him with 22:07.

The road trip continues for the Vegas Golden Knights as they head to Philadelphia on Monday to take on the Flyers, before matching up against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday. They will then return home on Friday with the red hot Colorado Avalanche the visitors to T-Mobile Arena.
