Let’s go over some notes from the game:

  • The Vegas Golden Knights won both games of a back-to-back over the weekend and are now 4-2-0 on the season.
  • The LA Kings won one and lost one of their weekend double-header and are now 2-3-0 on the year.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury was outstanding against the Kings, making 36 saves from 38 shots including a handful of highlight-reel stops.
  • In six games played this year, Fleury has a record of 4-1-0 with a 2.13 Goals Against Average and a .933 Save Percentage.
  • Keep feeding the hot hand as they say and that is certainly the case with Mark Stone who now has nine points (four goals, five assists) after recording a goal against the Kings.
  • Paul Stastny had himself a day with a four-point night. He tallied two goals and two assists, including three points on the power play.
  • After not recording a point while centering a third line between Valentin Zykov and Brandon Pirri, Stastny has five points (three goals, two assists) since being bumped back up to the second line.
  • Max Pacioretty has also enjoyed a red hot start to the year and he recorded a three-point night against the Kings with a goal and two assists. He has eight points (two goals, six assists) on the year.
  • Defenseman Shea Theodore had a two-point night with both of his assists coming on the power play.
  • The top line of Jonathan Marchessault-William Karlsson-Reilly Smith has been incredible to start the year, and they were on it again last night.

  • William Karlsson tallied his sixth assist of the year, Smith, picked up his fourth goal of the year and Marchessault registered an assist on Paul Stastny’s second power play goal.
  • That top line also had an even-strength expected goals percentage of 97.43, which is an incredible stat and credit to our friend Jesse Granger at The Athletic for that.
  • Nic Hague tallied his second assist after grabbing a secondary helper on Paul Stastny’s second power play goal with a delicious saucer pass to Jonathan Marchessault.
  • Austin Wagner tallied his first goal of the year for the LA Kings while Dustin Brown picked up his third goal of the season.
  • The Knights were outshot for the second straight game this weekend but that didn’t seem to matter as they made the most of the shots they did get on net.
  • After struggling in the faceoff circle as of late, the Golden Knights won 62 percent of their draws on Sunday with Cody Glass and Jonathan Marchessault winning 100 percent of the draws he took, Cody Eakin winning 67 percent, William Karlsson winning 53 percent and Paul Stastny winning 57 percent.
  • Special Teams are getting the job done for the Knights so far. Their penalty kill went 3-for-3 and it ranks 1st in the NHL (95.5 percent).
  • And the power play is just as red hot after going for a perfect 3-for-3 against LA, and the Knights’ PP ranks seventh in the NHL currently (30.0 percent).
  • The Golden Knights were outhit 23-29 by the Kings but led in blocked shots with 14 while having only nine giveaways.
  • The Official Three Stars of the night were: 1. Paul Stastny 2. Max Pacioretty 3. Marc-Andre Fleury

It was a hell of a night and a hell of a weekend for the Vegas Golden Knights who responded to losing two straight by winning back-to-back games, and they have a real test next up when they host the Nashville Predators at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.
