3. Mark Stone comes as advertised

Mark Stone was handed his preseason debut against the LA Kings and the two-way forward looked sharp and locked in from the very first drop of the puck. He finished the night with a goal and a plus/minus rating of +1 in 17:36 minutes of ice time, including 2:35 on the power play and 1:29 on the penalty kill.

The Golden Knights are easing their top guns into preseason action and we probably won’t see all of them together until the final two exhibition games, which is par for the course for most if not all teams in the NHL.

But Stone looked in midseason form against the Kings and he tied up the game in the third period with a stunning goal on the breakaway, displaying a lethal combination of speed, balance and silky mitts before deking Jonathan Quick and burying the puck home.

It is what we have come to expect from Stone and it is encouraging that he’s in dialled in already and Vegas fans are already salivating at the damage the Selke Trophy finalist can wreak in a full season with the franchise, after tallying 11 points (five goals, six assists) in 18 regular season games down the stretch last year.

Jonathan Marchessault, Nate Schmidt, Alex Tuch and Deryk Engelland all looked sharp against the Kings and it is crucial for the Vegas Golden Knights that their more established stars look game ready and raring to go for the regular season.
