Malcolm Subban on fire

Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon confirmed last week that Malcolm Subban will indeed continue as the team’s backup goalie to Marc-Andre Fleury, and the 25-year-old has responded in kind so far in Training Camp by absolutely lightning it up.

Subban has looked sharp over the last few days according to Jesse Granger of The Athletic, not allowing a single goal in 40 minutes of scrimmages against both established stars and prospects.

Now, of course, that doesn’t mean a great deal in the grand scheme of things but it is encouraging that Subban is dialled in already and a strong training camp followed by a productive preseason will only be beneficial in terms of his confidence and his mindset heading into the regular season.

Future Hall of Famer Marc-Andre Fleury will of course enter 2019-20 as the top dog between the pipes for the Golden Knights, but he’s reaching the twilight of his career and could benefit from some load management throughout the regular season in order to keep him fresh for the playoffs.

As a result, Subban will need to be locked in and ready to go at all times, something he has struggled with in the past in terms of being thrown into the action when cold. So, the fact that he has looked sharp to start training camp is a good sign and he could get an opportunity to further impress against Arizona today.
