But, for now, we’ve given you the essentials and given you the skinny on the Vegas Golden Knights’ 2019 NHL Entry Draft weekend…
Vegas Golden Knights 2019 NHL Entry Draft Picks:
- No. 17 (Round 1)
- No. 48 (Round 2)
- No. 79 (Round 3)
- No. 82 from WPG (Round 3)
- No. 86 from NHS (Round 3)
- No. 110 (Round 4)
- No. 135 from MIN (Round 5)
- No. 139 from MTL (Round 5)
- No. 141 (Round 5)
The last time the Knights had a pick inside the first round was back in 2017 when they made forward Cody Glass the first ever selection in franchise history with the sixth overall pick.
Vegas could opt for another high-end forward talent this year with the cupboard pretty bare when it comes to offensive talent currently in the farm system.
This year’s draft is deep and loaded with elite playmaking and scoring talent, giving the Golden Knights ample opportunity to load up with forwards on the depth chart.
Ryan Suzuki, Alex Newhook, Raphael Lavoie, Philip Tomasino and Brayden Tracey could all be intriguing options for the Vegas front office come Friday.
What about defensemen? It is no secret that the Golden Knights have an abundance of riches when it comes to young studs on the blueline, with the likes of Nic Hague, Jimmy Schuldt and Zach Whitecloud all ready to make the leap to the NHL.
But, as the old saying goes, you can never have too much of a good thing and there are a flurry of high-end blueliners woven throughout this year’s draft.
How about Thomas Harley? We at Vegas Hockey Knight are excited by the Mississauga defenseman who has shot up a host of draft boards following a big year in the OHL. He has plenty of upside, can boast size at 6’3″ and is known for his sublime skating ability. Harley, who turns 18 in August, shoots left and would need a couple of years in the AHL to fully develop, but he could be a star in the making. Cam York, Alex Vlasic and Moritz Seider are other blueliners to keep an eye on.
Or, Vegas could do what hasn’t been done since Andrei Vasilevskiy was taken 19th overall by the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012 and take a netminder inside the top 20.
The highest-ranked goalie by some distance in this year’s draft is Spencer Knight, who is attracting a lot of hype and might not even be on the board by the time Vegas go on the clock.
However, if the American-born goalie is still available, then the Golden Knights should seriously consider taking a player who has the potential to be the long-term heir to the throne to Marc-Andre Fleury.
He posted a 1.51 GAA and a .936 SV% in six games at this year’s U18 tournament in Sweden, and he looks to be a real generational talent.
Like we’ve mentioned already, we will be doing a deep dive on the likes of Knight and Harley in the coming couple of days, in addition to studying players the Golden Knights could select in rounds two, three, four and five.
