Making a case for and against the St. Louis Blues

It has been one hell of a ride for the Blues who, at one stage in 2018-19, propped up the rest of the NHL and would never have dreamt of being one game away from clinching their first-ever Stanley Cup in franchise history.

But here they are and a lot of their success has been based around their bruising style of hockey which has seen them beat teams into submission.

Rookie netminder Jordan Binnington has been on a tear for his team and the Blues also possess a glut of weapons in their armoury both in the offensive and defensive zone.

We’ve picked out some reasons why you should and also why you shouldn’t root for the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Final…

For:

Fairytale Ending – As already mentioned, this has been one heck of a run for the St. Louis Blues who had the worse record in hockey on Jan, 3.

However, inspired by interim Head Coach Craig Berube and rookie goalie Jordan Binnington, this plucky team rolled their sleeves up and fought their way to the postseason.

They can boast plenty of talent both on the blueline and within their forward unit, but they are also extremely tough to play against, especially on the road this postseason. They are 9-3 on the road in the playoffs and 7-2 in games following a loss in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Most people outside of Boston are probably praying for a St. Louis win and it would be pretty cool to see the franchise lift their first-ever Stanley Cup, especially when you consider where this team once was on Jan, 3.

David Perron – The forward is well-known to the Golden Knights having been a key cog in the side that reached the Stanley Cup Final in the team’s inaugural year in 2017-18.

Perron was a hugely popular figure in Sin City and it is easy to tell why after he tallied 16 goals and 50 assists for 66 points in his one year with Vegas, including an additional nine points (one goal, eight assists) in the postseason.

He has seven goals and eight assists for 15 points in 25 playoff games for the Blues and he was also lights out during the regular season, posting 46 points (23 goals, 23 assists).

It is always a nice idea to root for a former player and Golden Knights fans would no doubt agree that Perron is deserving of a championship ring and the chance to raise the Stanley Cup above his ahead for the Blues tonight.

Against:

Dodgy Calls – We’re scraping the barrel here but Boston is probably still mad over the missed tripping call in Game 5 that helped the Blues to take a 3-2 series lead.

These playoffs have been blemished somewhat by questionable officiating, and we’ll all be keeping everything crossed that there are no controversial calls in tonight’s game.

Some people may want to root against St. Louis for that reason but that’s all we’ve got given that the vast majority of people outside of Boston will be hoping to see the Blues make history by winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
