Big news came out of Sin City earlier this week after it was announced that the Vegas Golden Knights have been given the go ahead for a brand new facility in Henderson.
The Vegas Golden Knights keep on making huge strides since entering the NHL as an expansion team in 2017, and gaining a new indoor ice hockey facility is just the latest accomplishment for the franchise.
The Henderson Hockey Facility will be built on 3.2 acres and will be situated on the southwest corner of Water Street and Atlantic Avenue, adjacent to Henderson City Hall.
The Henderson Mayor and City Council approved a lease agreement and the sparkling new facility is scheduled for completion by July 2020 with an estimated construction cost of $25 million, according to an official press release from the Vegas Golden Knights.
Building a state-of-the-art facility in Henderson will allow the Golden Knights to continue to grow both their brand and the sport of hockey in the local area, in addition to appealing to the next generation of fans which is hugely important for the lifeblood of any franchise.
The Henderson Hockey Facility will feature two National Hockey League regulation-size ice rinks, retail space, a full-service restaurant overlooking the ice surface and Water Street, in addition to around 5,000 square feet of office space.
This project will also enable the Golden Knights to give a community space and quality facility to youth and adult leagues and programs, youth and adult figure skating programs, free hockey play and open skate events, tournaments, in addition to camps for both hockey and figure skating.
The Vegas Golden Knights also intend on using the Henderson Hockey Facility for five official watch parties annually as well as a host of appearances from players and team executives.
And, if that wasn’t enough, the Golden Knights franchise will also award 20 grants of $500 each through the first three years of the agreement to Henderson residents younger than 18-years-old who come from at-risk or lower-income homes to be used for any of the programming offered at the facility.
