It was a good day at the office for a handful of Vegas Golden Knights players at the IIHF World Championships.

The Vegas Golden Knights saw four of their players in action today in Slovakia with two players in particular standing out.

Jonathan Marchessault, who tallied 25 goals and 34 assists for 59 points for the Knights in 2018-19 including a further six points (four goals, two assists) in the postseason, potted a power play goal and was named Player of the Game despite a 3-1 loss for Team Canada against Finland.

And it was a Vegas affair for Marchessault’s goal with Golden Knights teammates Shea Theodore and Mark Stone, who was named an Assistant Captain for Team Canada, getting the helpers.

Team Canada are next in action on Sunday when they face Great Britain at 11:15 am PT for their second game of the opening round.

It also proved to be a fruitful day for forward Nikita Gusev, who played his part as Team Russia cruised to a 5-2 win against Norway in their opening game of the tournament.

Gusev, who has yet to ice in an NHL game for Vegas but is expected to challenge for a roster spot in training camp, enjoyed a starring role for his country on the big stage.

He started off by registering an assist on a goal from Florida Panthers forward Evgenii Dadonov, before getting in on the act himself after ripping a shot under the crossbar to give the Russians a commanding 5-0 lead.
